How to convert from jpg
Turn JPG photos into PNG, WEBP or GIF, one at a time or a whole folder at once. Orientation stored in the photo's metadata is applied as it converts, so pictures come out the way up you saw them.
- 1Add your JPGsDrop them anywhere on this page, paste with Ctrl+V, or use the picker. Nothing is uploaded until you press Convert.
- 2Choose the formatPNG keeps every pixel exactly. WEBP is usually the smallest for a website. GIF is limited to 256 colours.
- 3Convert and downloadOne image comes back on its own; several come back as a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
- Does converting a JPG to PNG improve its quality?
- No. PNG stores what it is given without losing anything more, but the detail a JPEG discarded when it was first saved is gone for good. Converting prevents further loss; it cannot undo the earlier loss.
- Which format should I pick?
- PNG when you need an exact copy or plan to edit it again. WEBP when the file is going on a website and size matters. GIF only when something specifically requires it.
- Why is my converted PNG larger than the JPG?
- That is expected. PNG is lossless, so it has to store detail that JPEG approximates away. A photograph will almost always be bigger as a PNG.
- Can I build an animated GIF from several photos?
- Not yet. That feature turns many files into a single animation and is still being built; converting JPGs to PNG, WEBP and GIF works now.
